On August 20th, the OWLS enjoyed tacos and tunes.  A delicious taco bar was prepared by Mary Lou Oberlander, Judy Glass and Lynn Forsythe.  Then, we went upstairs for our featured entertainment, the Armchair Chorderbacks.  Our own Jim Bagby is their baritone.  From toe-tappers to tear-jerkers, their varied program was met with enthusiastic applause from the 60 some in attendance.  Our numbers were bolstered by our Sweet Adelines friends, the Prime Timers, some of whom joined the quartet in singing the popular duet from Music Man, Lida Rose/Will I Ever Tell You….and... you weren’t there, you missed a “special” song asking mother to cut her toenails to save the sheets.

September 10th will be another special day for OWLS.  A special day of the month - we are meeting on the 2nd Wednesday instead of the 3rd because of the Shepherd’s Center Book Sale); and, a special celebration - we are celebrating Oktoberfest early this year with brats prepared as only the Oberlander’s can, German potato salad and Black Forest cake!  AND, we are going to again have live entertainment!

Our guest performers will be two members of, Alpen Spielers, a dynamic and energetic German polka band.  During the last 12 years, the group has been featured at polka festivals throughout the United States.  Betty Jo Simon, leader of the Alpen Spielers, brings endless enthusiasm to the stage as vocalist, accordionist and music arranger.  And Paul Rodabaugh will provide a solid foundation playing the tuba and alphorn.

October 15th we’ll have another afternoon of high quality music when the incomparable Shelley Melewski performs her annual piano program that has become the highlight of our year.  Her theme this year will be music from the 1940’s.
